Filled your JEE Main 2027 form in a hurry and now spotted a mistake — a wrong letter in your name, the wrong date of birth, the wrong category? Do not panic, and do not fill a second form. The National Testing Agency (NTA) gives every Session 1 candidate one short chance to fix the fixable mistakes: the correction window, open for exactly three days — 27, 28 and 29 November 2026. This guide tells you plainly what you can change in those three days, what is locked forever, and the five mistakes that are actually worth using the window for.
📅 The dates that matter: Registration (without late fee) closed on 22 November 2026. Late applications with a ₹500 late fee run 23–26 November. The correction window opens on 27 November and closes on 29 November 2026 (11:50 pm) on the official portal, jeemain.nta.ac.in. After 29 November, no correction request is accepted — not by email, not by post, not in person. The Session 1 exams follow on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027.
What You CAN Change in the Correction Window
The list below is the one announced for 2027 in the Information Bulletin's correction section and carried in the current 2027 correction guides. NTA groups the fields like this:
- Any ONE of these three: your own name, your father's name, or your mother's name. (Only one of the three can be changed — choose carefully.)
- All of these: Class 10 details, Class 12 details, and your State Code of Eligibility.
- All of these: date of birth, gender, category, sub-category / PwD status (where it is not already verified through the UDID portal), signature, and the paper you are appearing for.
- Examination cities and the medium of the paper — these can be changed in line with your permanent and present address.
- Adding a paper — for example, adding B.Arch or B.Planning to your B.E./B.Tech application — is allowed.
What You CANNOT Change — Locked Fields
- Mobile number — locked. The number you registered with stays.
- Email address — locked.
- Permanent address and present (correspondence) address — locked.
- Emergency contact details — locked.
- Your photograph — not editable in the 2027 list. The photo already uploaded stays on your application. (Your signature, by contrast, can be changed.)
⚠️ One honest warning about these lists: they follow the fields announced for 2027 in the bulletin's correction section and the current 2027 guides. NTA publishes its final correction notice when the window opens, and the fields the portal actually unlocks for your login are the final word. When you log in on 27 November, the greyed-out fields are locked and the open fields are the ones you may edit — trust the screen in front of you over any list on the internet, including this one.
The 5 Mistakes Worth Using the Window For
Do not change things just because the window is open. But if any of these five is wrong in your form, fix it — each one can hurt you later, outside the exam hall.
1. Name spelling. Your name in the application must match your Class 10 certificate and Aadhaar exactly — same spelling, same order. NTA's own advisories repeat this because a mismatch creates trouble at document verification and counselling, even if you score well. If you typed "Mohd" for "Mohammad" or dropped a surname, use the window. Remember the group rule: you can change your name or your father's or your mother's name — only one.
2. Date of birth. Your date of birth must match the Class 10 certificate, which is the document that proves it. A wrong day, month or year can clash with your records at admission time. Date of birth is fully editable in this window — check it digit by digit against the certificate, not from memory.
3. Category. This is the most expensive mistake on the list. Your category (General, Gen-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST) decides your qualifying cut-off, your rank list and your seat at counselling. A student who is really OBC-NCL but applied as General competes on the wrong list; a student who claimed a category they cannot prove loses the seat when the certificate is checked. Category can be changed in the 2027 window — if yours is wrong, fix it, and keep a valid certificate ready, because it will be verified at admission.
4. Signature — and a hard truth about the photo. If your uploaded signature is blurred, cut off, or clearly not your usual signature, replace it: signature is editable, and it must be legible (JPG/JPEG, 10–100 KB). But know this clearly: the photograph cannot be changed in the correction window. Whatever photo is on your application is final, which is exactly why the live-photo step during registration mattered. Do not waste the window hunting for a photo-edit button that is not there.
5. Exam cities and medium. City preferences can be changed within the address-based choices the portal offers, and so can the medium of the question paper. If your family has moved, or you picked cities you cannot actually reach in January, correct the order now — the exam-city intimation slip in December is made from these choices. Also double-check your State Code of Eligibility and Class 10/12 details in the same sitting; they sit in the editable group too.
How to Make a Correction — Step by Step
- On or after 27 November, go to jeemain.nta.ac.in and open the candidate login / application correction link.
- Log in with your Application Number and password.
- Your filled form opens. Fields that can be corrected are open for editing; locked fields appear but cannot be touched.
- Make only the changes you actually need. Keep your Class 10 certificate beside you and copy the name and date of birth exactly as printed on it.
- If a new signature is needed, upload it in the correct size (JPG/JPEG, 10–100 KB).
- Submit the changes. If your change attracts an additional fee (see below), pay it online — otherwise the correction is not complete.
- Download and save the new confirmation page. After a correction, a fresh confirmation page is generated with your corrected details. Keep a printout and a copy on your phone — this page, not the old one, is your record.
One more rule: corrections are a one-time facility. Once you submit and the window closes, you cannot re-open the form to fix the correction itself. Read every changed field twice before you press submit. (If you have not applied at all yet, use our step-by-step JEE Main 2027 registration guide — applications with the late fee are open till 26 November.)
Is There a Fee for Corrections?
For most fields, no. Correcting names, date of birth, Class 10/12 details, signature and similar listed fields costs nothing. An additional fee applies only where the change itself raises your application fee — the reported cases are a category change into a higher-fee category, adding a paper, and adding an examination centre outside India. That extra amount is simply the difference in the application fee for the new choice, payable online by card, net banking or UPI before the correction is confirmed. Two related points: if your change would lower the fee, NTA does not refund the difference; and whatever fee applies to your change, the portal shows it on screen before you confirm — never pay any amount that the portal itself does not display.
If You Miss the Window
First, do not panic, and second, do not be fooled: there is no second chance for Session 1. After 29 November, NTA accepts no correction requests at all — requests by email, post or through any agent are not entertained, and any person promising to "get your form corrected" for money is cheating you. What actually happens if you miss it: your application simply continues exactly as submitted, and the same details flow into your admit card and result records. For most small mistakes, the exam itself still goes ahead normally — the serious problems arise only for the big three (name, date of birth, category), and even those are handled against your original documents at the counselling and admission stage, not by NTA now. So: check your confirmation page today, and if anything is wrong, use the window while it exists — that is the whole point of it. Mistakes locked forever, like the mobile number and email, cannot be changed at all; if you registered with a wrong email, keep your application number and password safe, because the login is what you will rely on.
Applying fresh in Session 2 instead? Session 2 has its own correction window, 8–10 February 2027, after its registration closes — the same portal-final rule applies there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is the JEE Main correction window free?
Mostly, yes. Corrections to the listed fields — name, date of birth, category details, signature, school details and so on — are free. You pay only the fee difference if your change moves you to a higher-fee option, such as adding a paper or changing to a higher-fee category, and the portal shows that amount before you confirm.
Q. Can I change my mobile number or email in the correction window?
No. Mobile number, email address, both addresses and emergency contact details are locked fields for 2027. They cannot be edited in this window or after it.
Q. Can I change my category during correction?
Yes — as listed for 2027, category and sub-category/PwD are in the editable group. Fix a wrong category in this window, keep the valid certificate ready for verification at counselling, and remember that no fee difference is refunded if the new category is cheaper.
Q. Will I get a new confirmation page after correcting?
Yes. After you submit corrections (and pay any applicable fee difference), download the fresh confirmation page showing your corrected details and keep it safe. It replaces the old one as your proof of application.
Q. Can I change my photograph in the correction window?
No. The photograph is not in the editable list for 2027 — only the signature can be replaced. The photo already on your application remains final.
Q. I missed the 29 November deadline. What now?
Your application continues as submitted, and no late correction is possible for Session 1 — not through NTA, and not through any agent. Keep your original documents ready; genuine mismatches are dealt with at counselling/admission against those documents. Then correct your approach for Session 2, whose own correction window runs 8–10 February 2027.
Once your form is right, go back to the only thing that decides your rank — the preparation. Our chapter-wise JEE Main weightage guide shows which chapters of Physics, Chemistry and Maths have carried the most questions in recent papers, so the weeks after the correction window are spent in the right order.
KAMALDNP Academy is a private coaching institute. We are not part of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The field lists above follow the correction fields announced for JEE Main 2027 in the Information Bulletin and current 2027 reporting; NTA's correction notice and the fields enabled in your own login are final. Always confirm dates and rules on the official portal, jeemain.nta.ac.in.
