Summer Internship-I — What It Is
Industrial training during the semester break after the 2nd semester examinations, for 4 weeks (the scheme also mentions a 4–6 week duration). It gives students an opportunity to experience the environment and culture of industrial production units and commercial activities in field organisations, and to integrate theory with practice. The concerned HOD, along with other teachers, guides students in arranging appropriate training places relevant to their branch. An internship schedule is drawn up for each student before starting, in consultation with the training provider, and students are briefed in advance about the organisational setup, product range, manufacturing process, and important machines and materials used.
Students keep a daily report in a diary during training, which later becomes the final report and its presentation. Evaluation is through the internship report and viva-voce/presentation, assessing understanding of materials, industrial processes and practices, problem-solving ability in an industrial setup, and application of knowledge in real-life situations.
