HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is the standard language used to create web pages. Every website you open — Google, YouTube, kamaldnp.com — is built on HTML at its core.
HTML is not a programming language. It is a markup language. That means you do not write logic or calculations in it. You write tags that tell the browser what each part of the page is: this is a heading, this is a paragraph, this is a picture, this is a link.
When you type a website address, your browser asks a server for the page. The server sends back an HTML file. The browser reads the tags in that file and draws the page on your screen — text, images, buttons, and all.
HTML works together with two other technologies. CSS controls how the page looks — colours, fonts, spacing. JavaScript controls how the page behaves — clicks, animations, and forms. You will meet both later in this course, but HTML always comes first, because it is the skeleton of the page.
You need only two free tools: a text editor (like Notepad on Windows, or VS Code) and a web browser (like Chrome). Write the code, save the file with a .html ending, and open it in the browser. That is all. No internet connection is needed to practise.
