Electrical Circuits — What This Subject Is About
Every electrical system — from a house wiring to a power grid — is a circuit, and this subject is the grammar of circuits. Electrical Circuits teaches you to maintain electrical systems by applying AC and DC circuit fundamentals: single-phase and three-phase circuits, network analysis and network theorems. It is a practicum subject (L 1 – P 4), so the learning is split between a small theory part and a large lab part.
The five units are single-phase AC series circuits, single-phase AC parallel circuits, three-phase circuits, network reduction and circuit analysis, and network theorems. The first unit carries the most weightage at 23%. There are 17 practicals — from using an oscilloscope on R-L-C circuits to proving Thevenin's, Norton's and maximum power transfer theorems — and 11 reference books.
Subject 3.3 (Practicum) • Total 100 Marks • 3 Credits • L 1 – P 4 • 3rd Semester — Electrical Engineering • Session 2026–27
