Industrial Automation and Control — What This Subject Is About
Modern factories run on PLCs and SCADA — machines that follow ladder logic and screens that watch whole plants. Industrial Automation and Control teaches you to maintain industrial automation systems, from the PLC on the shop floor to the SCADA screen in the control room. This is Program Elective-1, Option 1: you choose either this subject or Industrial Instrumentation and Condition Monitoring.
The five units are an introduction to industrial automation, PLC fundamentals, PLC programming and applications, electric drives and special machines, and SCADA systems. PLC programming is the heaviest unit at 28% (05 periods) — ladder logic, timers, counters, comparison and data-handling instructions, and applications like traffic-light control, elevator control and tank-level control. It is a practicum subject (L 1 – P 4) with 13 practicals and 7 reference books.
Subject 4.4.1 (Program Elective-1, Practicum) • Total 100 Marks • 3 Credits • L 1 – P 4 • Choose this OR Industrial Instrumentation and Condition Monitoring • 4th Semester — Electrical Engineering • Session 2026–27
