AKTU's odd semester theory exams start on 24 November 2026. Less than four weeks of preparation are left for B.Tech students of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow. At this stage, the fastest marks do not come from reading the whole book again. They come from solving the last few years' question papers — because AKTU repeats topics, and often whole questions, from one session to the next. This guide shows you where those papers officially live, how to download them semester-wise, and how to use them properly.
📌 Official download page: AKTU keeps its old papers on its own website — aktu.ac.in — Old Question Paper page. It is completely free and needs no login, no enrollment number and no payment. Start there, not on random PDF sites.
The Official Place: AKTU's Old Question Paper Page
Many students do not know that the university itself publishes its old question papers. On the AKTU website, under the Examinations menu, there is an "Old Question Papers" page — a big index of papers for all courses: B.Tech, B.Pharm, MBA, MCA, B.Arch, BHMCT and others.
The index is arranged in a simple table. Every row shows four things:
- Course — for example B.Tech or M.C.A.
- Paper ID — the ID number printed on the top of the paper.
- Subject Code — for example KCS301 or CS-402.
- Subject Name — for example Data Structures or Operating System.
The paper files themselves sit in session folders on the same official website — the archive goes back many years, to sessions as old as 2012. When you open a subject, you get its papers from different exam sessions, and each one downloads as a PDF.
Step-by-Step: How to Download Your Paper
- Open the official page: Go to aktu.ac.in/old-question-paper.html — or open aktu.ac.in, go to the Examinations menu and click Old Question Papers.
- Keep your subject code ready: Take the exact subject code from your syllabus or your exam form. The code is the fastest way to find the right paper.
- Find your subject: The list is long, so use your browser's find option (Ctrl + F) and type your subject code.
- Open the subject and pick the session: For this December's exams, the most useful ones are the last three to four odd-semester sessions of your subject.
- Download the PDF and save it with a clear name, like KCS301-Data-Structures-2024-25.pdf.
- Check the first page before you study: Every real AKTU paper prints the subject code, subject name, semester, session, total marks and time on its first page. This page tells you whether you have the right paper.
Semester-Wise: Finding Your Branch and Semester
AKTU papers are identified by subject code, and the code itself tells you the semester: the first number after the letters is the semester. In KCS301, the "3" means a 3rd semester subject; in KAS101, the "1" means 1st semester. Older codes work the same way — in CS-402, the "4" means 4th semester.
So the semester-wise method is simple:
- 1st and 2nd semester: Look at the common first-year codes of your scheme (KAS, KCS, KEE, KME types) and match each subject name with your syllabus.
- 3rd to 8th semester: Pick your branch's codes for that semester number, and download the last few sessions of each subject.
- Old scheme and carry-over: The same subject may appear in the index under an older code with the same or a similar name. Search by the subject name too — the name rarely changes even when the code does.
AKTU holds odd-semester exams in the winter session (December–January) and even-semester exams in the summer session (May–June). For a 3rd, 5th or 7th semester exam this December, the most matching papers are the previous winter-session papers of that subject.
Which Years to Solve — and How
Download the last three to four sessions of every subject. Older papers are useful for extra practice, but the recent sessions show the current pattern and favourite topics. Then use the papers like this:
- Solve in exam conditions: Sit in a quiet place, keep your phone away, and give yourself exactly the time printed on the paper — 3 hours in most AKTU theory papers. Write full answers; do not just "read and think".
- Check honestly: Match your answers with your notes and textbook. Mark the questions you could not attempt — those topics go back on your study list.
- Also solve the carry-over version: The special carry-over paper of the same subject is a second full paper from the same syllabus — one more free mock test.
- One paper a day is enough: One timed paper daily, with proper checking, improves marks faster than reading three new chapters.
How to Spot the Repeated Topics
This is where previous papers pay you back. Take the last four papers of one subject and do this small exercise:
- Write down the unit or topic of every question in all four papers.
- Make a tally — one mark against a topic every time it appears.
- Topics with three or four marks are AKTU's favourite topics. Prepare these first, with full written practice.
- Topics that appear once come next. Topics absent in four years come last — study them only if time remains.
In many subjects, a large part of the paper comes from a small set of repeated topics. Four old papers and one hour of tallying can show you that set clearly.
If Your Paper Is Not on the Official Page
Be practical about one thing: the official archive is an old and very large collection, and it is strongest for older sessions. A paper from the most recent session may not be uploaded there yet. If that happens:
- Check your college library: Most college libraries keep previous years' papers, and your seniors usually have the recent ones.
- Student-run portals: Students also commonly search portals run by students and teachers, such as AKTUPro, Quescol and GKPad, which collect recent-session papers semester-wise. These are not official — always match the subject code, session and Paper ID on the paper's first page with your syllabus before you trust a file.
- Beware of wrong PDFs: Many forwarded PDFs are of another scheme or another university, or are model papers with a false name. The first-page check protects you.
- Build your own paper: If no old paper exists for a subject, take the official syllabus unit by unit and prepare the important questions from your notes and textbook for each unit.
And keep the exam side ready too: papers help only if your exam form is complete and your admit card comes on time. If you have not read it yet, see our guide on the AKTU exam form, fees and carry-over rules for the full odd-semester picture.
⚖️ An honest note on ownership: Question papers belong to AKTU. The correct and safe way to get them is from the university's own website, as shown above. KAMALDNP does not host or sell AKTU question papers — this guide only shows you the official route and how to study from the papers.
💰 Money matters too: AKTU students in UG, PG and diploma courses can also get the UP Scholarship (Dashmottar). If you have applied for 2026-27, read our guide to check your scholarship application status, the correction window and the payment dates, so the money actually reaches your bank account.
FAQs
1. Are AKTU previous year question papers free to download?
Yes. The papers on AKTU's official Old Question Paper page are free for every student. There is no fee and no registration. If any website asks you to pay for a simple previous year paper, leave it and use the official page.
2. Do I need an ERP or One View login to download the papers?
No. The official old-paper page is a public page — anyone can open it and download the PDFs. Your ERP and One View logins are for your exam form, admit card and result, not for question papers.
3. Which years' papers are available on the official page?
The official archive is very old and large — its session folders go back to 2012, and the index covers B.Tech, B.Pharm, MBA, MCA and other courses. It is strongest for older sessions; the newest session's paper of every subject may not be uploaded yet. For a missing recent paper, use your college library or a student portal, and verify the code and session on the first page.
4. Does AKTU give solutions or answer keys with these papers?
No. AKTU publishes the question papers, not official solutions for semester theory exams. Check your answers with your class notes, textbook and teachers. Some student portals and "quantum" style books offer solved versions, but those are unofficial — if a solved answer looks wrong, trust your textbook.
5. Are the papers available in Hindi medium?
AKTU theory papers are normally printed in English and Hindi together — the same paper carries the questions in both languages, so there is no separate Hindi paper to search for. Open the first page of the PDF you download and you can confirm this for your subject.
6. My subject is not in the index. What should I do?
First, search by the subject name instead of the code — older schemes used different codes for the same subject. Next, try the carry-over or special-examination version of the subject. If it is still missing, ask your college library and prepare unit-wise important questions from the official syllabus and your notes.
