Mechatronics — What This Subject Is About
Mechatronics is where mechanics meets electronics: sensors, drives, hydraulics and pneumatics working together in one system. This subject builds an understanding of mechatronics — its systems and elements, drives, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems — and helps you identify problems and decide applications for future development. This is Open Elective-2, Option 2: you choose either this subject or Economic Policies in India.
The five units are an introduction to mechatronics, elements in mechatronics, drives, hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems. The elements unit — sensors, transducers, microprocessors, microcontrollers, PID controllers and PLCs — carries the most weightage at 23% (08 periods). One honest note: the PDF's printed course objective for Mechatronics is about developing a project plan, which does not match the subject; the aim above is drawn from the learning outcomes instead. Note the marks: this is a (Q) qualifying subject — 50 marks internal, 2 credits. Passing is compulsory, but the marks do not count for your percentage or division.
Subject 4.7 (Open Elective-2, Theory) (Q) • 50 Marks internal • 2 Credits • L 2 – P 0 • Choose this OR Economic Policies in India • Qualifying only • 4th Semester — Electrical Engineering • Session 2026–27

Frequently Asked Questions
How many marks is Mechatronics worth in the 4th semester?
It is a (Q) qualifying subject — 50 marks internal, 2 credits. Passing is compulsory, but the marks are not included for percentage and division.
Which unit carries the most weightage in Mechatronics?
Elements in Mechatronics, 23% (08 periods).
Is there any practical work in Mechatronics?
No — the official syllabus lists no practicals for this subject.
Which books should I read for Mechatronics?
5 reference books are listed in the official syllabus — the full list is in the Complete Syllabus section above.
How can I download the Mechatronics syllabus PDF?
The PDF is free to download — use the download link in the Download section below. It is prepared by KAMALDNP Academy from the official BTEUP syllabus.
Should I choose Mechatronics or Economic Policies in India?
Both are the two options of Open Elective-2 (4.7) — you choose one. Mechatronics is about mechatronic systems, sensors and transducers, drives, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems; Economic Policies in India is about the Indian economy and its policies. Check which option your polytechnic offers.
