Energy Conservation and Audit — BTEUP Electrical 5th Semester Syllabus 2026-27

Energy Conservation and Audit — What This Subject Is About

Energy saved is energy earned — and in industry, saving electricity is often cheaper than generating more of it. Energy Conservation and Audit teaches you to undertake energy conservation and energy audit: finding where energy is wasted in machines and installations, and proving it with measurements. It is a practicum subject (L 2 – P 4) with 15 practicals, so most of the learning happens in the lab.

The five units cover energy conservation itself, conservation in electrical machines, conservation in electrical installation systems, conservation through cogeneration and tariff, and finally the energy audit of an electrical system. Three units carry 24% each, so the weightage is spread evenly — machines, installations and cogeneration all matter equally. One honest note: the official PDF gives Unit III as 06 periods in the unit headings but 08 in the marks table, and Unit IV the other way round (08 vs 06); the total is 28 either way, and this page uses the unit-heading figures.

Subject 5.3 (Practicum) • Total 100 Marks • 4 Credits • L 2 – P 4 • 5thth Semester — Electrical Engineering • Session 2026–27

Note: In the PDF the unit headings give Unit III as 06 periods and Unit IV as 08 periods, but the Suggested Distribution of Marks table gives Unit III as 08 periods and Unit IV as 06 periods (total 28 either way). The unit headings are used here.
